A rare work-split collaboration between Bonni Reid and myself.

The same folks who do the Start Mobile cell phone-art thing are also responsible for this poster show
in San Francisco. (There's a lot there, but at least take a peek.) I'm
not a part of it, but I've been receiving updates and I guess the thing
finally premiered in San Francisco - on July 4th yet. A lot of the
content ain't necessarily my bag, but I'm just glad it exists; there
isn't enough loud unpleasant dissent going on these days - it's like
everyone's napping. So, as far as I'm concerned - good fucking job.
Plus there's some nice design in there.
The second thing that interests me is the reaction, particularly from those who predictably got their patriotic panties in a twist. (And a large chunk of the work isn't even anti-American or anti-Bush or whatever anti they are perceiving. And I still marvel at how "anti-war" can be considered a bad thing - but I digress...) It's weird that there still exists any segment of the American population that still see the so-called left as any kind of threat to their New American Century. Hey - you won! You're running the show - don't you get it? Take a look around, for Christ's sake. And I'm sure that them lefty artists wield a whole lot of influence over the masses. Anyway, here are a few choice quotes from people who love America more than you do:
"Sure makes one wish for one huge ice pick we could use to break that little chunk of lost America off and set it adrift."
"What they need in HANOI ON THE BAY is a good earthquake to dump the whole stinking place into the ocean and we can just BOYCOTT SAN FRANCISCO..."
"Sometimes I wish we could have another civil war in America so we could purge the nation of these fifth columnists."
"You
fucking people should be sent to Gitmo! Fuck you, if you don't like
America then get the hell out. Why the fuck would you stay here? Could
it be because this is the best Country In the world could it? Fuck you
liberal assholse (sic). I can't wait until Habib Cuts your fucking head
off."
Yes sir - now that's patriotism. Can you feel
the love tonight? Oh, I see - I guess some America-lovers just love
little select bits of America. It's not quite amazing how often you
hear shit like that nowadays. I find it difficult to grapple with a
statement along the lines of: "you're lucky you live in America,
otherwise you'd be shot." I mean you can actually feel the ugly,
sweating, seething sentiment underneath, the grim desire for that day
to come when they start lining people up against the wall.

My memories of Saturday night's Wall Candy opening are all but a delightful haze, but I would like to dispense many shoutings-out to the hordes of free-spending patrons who turned out that snow-steeped eve for what will surely be remembered as the soiree of the season. I must confess that it has been many crusty moons since this crusty-mooned cartoonist has made with the merry quite so mad-cappily, for those younger, more demented Jupiter Project party beasts are a tough lot to keep pace with - and yes, I am glancing at you now, Mr. Marv Pilon. And by the way, nice oven mitts!
Thanks also to The Jem Gallery's Carola and Holly, and also to the many local lushinaries who helped the night twinkle and gleam like champagne-drenched CGI tinsel into the wee hours - Virginia Ivanicki, X-Ray Coleslaw, and of course Wayne Cox and his lovely prostitute Randi.

Countdown to excitement! Set a course for adventure! Gangway for exclamation points!! Here is is one of my new wood pieces for Friday's Jupiter Project show - part of a series of wacky but lovable extraterrestrial characters called "Space-Jerks." If I'm not gettin' it on with a TV show, lunchkits, t-shirts, plastic toys, or graphic novels by next week, then I better know the reason why! Here's the lowdown again:

I'm downright honored to be a part of this illustrious and talent-stuffed show featuring a whack of artists from the animation biz, starting this Friday in bawdy, brassy Brooklyn, NY. (Thanks Pat, Garnet, and Jared.) I submitted a pic that's a little off my beaten track of thugs and lowlifes, but still plenty shady.
I Skip On Your Grave - Gouache on Bristol.
Man, I could sure use a good dose of heat-stricken, disgruntled NYC sass-mouth about now. Ah, the memories...
